This painted cast iron sculpture was designed with four icons to represent four events or memories in human history: a fire, a book, a wheel, and a skull. There are four because I wanted them to signify the four nucleic acid bases that make up dna. I was thinking a lot at the time about what role (if any) dna might play in memory, specifically I was wondering if it transcribed the memories of our ancestors.
