School days were happy days; we played Shinny and baseball, the ball usually homemade. We would take a small stone, unravel an old woolen sock, wrap the yarn around the stone and finish with string or cord- handmade wooden bats - no gloves of any kind. The balls frequently were in need of repair, but balls and bats cost money and even pennies were hard to come by. In the winter we skated on McGregor Creek which was only about three blocks from the school.
