One Way Out

One night, Johnny and I were doing our homework at the kitchen table, got into an argument as to whether it was correct to say A hen sits on her nest or sets on her nest. We finally agreed to submit the question to Grandfather. We found Grandfather in the living room by the firplace and asked him whether a hensits or sets. Grandfather pondered the question for a few seconds, (he didn't know the answer) and said he didn't care whether a hen sits or sets but if she cackles he would like to know if she was laying or lying.
